Are you seeking to rank up in CS:GO? Here is everything you need to know about its ranking system.

How do CS:GO rankings work?

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is one of the most dedicated first-person shooter games that utilised shooting physics which made the game more realistic. With the game becoming more famous, ranking up is a necessity for all players.

Since its initial release in 2012, CS:GO became another prominent first-person shooter game amidst the several releases from its contemporaries like Valorant and Apex Legends.

With the increasing demand, its ranking system continuously improves as more players eye for higher ranks than others as well as to help them dominate the battlefield.

This is why it’s important to rank up like the best CSGO teams. But, how exactly does the ranking system work? Here is everything you need to know about the most coveted mechanics of CSGO’s gameplay.

How to efficiently rank

Winning games allow you to rank up and become a better player. What most people don’t know about the ranking system is that CS:GO follows a modified Glicko-2 ranking system. This algorithm evaluates a player’s skill sets and if the team wins during a round.

Several factors affect each player’s evaluation like kills, deaths, assists, and the damage made during the match. For you to grasp how rankings work, you need to monitor your stats and find a way to increase them during the game.

While it’s great to have individual stats in the game, you should go for wins rather than individual achievements since they are the basis of the ranks.

Ranking list

Here is a list of the CSGO teams rankings if you decide to level up your game to new heights:

  • The Global Elite (TGE)
  • Supreme First Master Class (SMFC)
  • Legendary Eagle Master (LEM)
  • Legendary Eagle (LE)
  • Distinguished Master Guardian (DMG)
  • Master Guardian Elite (MGE)
  • Master Guardian II (MG2)
  • Master Guardian I (MSG1)
  • Gold Nova IV (GN4)
  • Gold Nova III (GN3)
  • Gold Nova I (GN1)
  • Silver IV (S4)
  • Silver III (S3)
  • Silver II (S2)
  • Silver I (S1)

The rankings are scaled the highest to lowest and are achieved by winning more games and by being an efficient player.

Tips to rank up

Efficient playing is fundamental when playing CS:GO. However, there are specific tips that allow you to rank up to your desired level:

Play deathmatch mode

With 16 players on the field, deathmatch allows players to battle it out against each other in a free-for-all mode. Unlike the traditional sense of a free-for-all, Valve’s version of the free-for-all format splits the battlefield into two teams.

Each round only lasts for ten minutes with the winning player with the highest points. Earning points in this round is straightforward as you will only need to kill enemies to achieve XP.

You can also double the points after every kill if you switch into a bonus weapon every time it’s available to use. However, the best tip to earn points is to be disciplined in withdrawing the bonus weapon as much as possible.

Earning more points using a different weapon may sound plausible at first, but there’s no point using a weapon like the Negev when you are in an open battlefield. Be aware of your surrounding areas and pick the perfect time to use the bonus weapon. Don’t waste any moment and take advantage of any opportunity.

Play casual mode

The casual mode is a lighter version of the competitive mode by increasing the player limit on each team to 10 players. It also allows you to turn off the friendly fire which diminishes the chances of hitting your teammates while you’re in the heat of the moment.

The XP that you can earn is capped at 1,000 XP when playing in this mode. It may not be ideal to have a cap when levelling up your account, but 1,000 XP is quite a lot and is almost impossible to reach in a single round.

Regardless, the casual mode is one of the best ways to earn fast XP as you’ll only need at least 10 kills to feel the spike of your experience growing after every match.

Another quick strategy you can do is to group with your friends and try to stack on a single team. This way, you can spectate both teams even after a death takes place. It provides your team with an unfair advantage from dead teammates as you’ll see where the opposing team is heading for the next attack. Thus getting prepared for more kills.

While this is frowned upon for professional CSGO teams, it’s a great way of ranking faster because you’re at least guaranteed two-three kills doing this technique.

Play competitive mode

The competitive mode is where most CSGO major teams play. New players may want to wait it out as you are required to at least be at Rank 2 to participate.

While the cap of XP you’ll be earning is 480 XP, the level curve will make it all the more worthwhile because you’ll drastically increase your skill in beating the game and the opposing members of the team.

Furthermore, the competitive mode is the longest mode in CSGO where matches can go longer than an hour. Before you commit to this game mode, make sure you have a lot of time in your hands as it can draw you out of the game if you are exhausted after hours of gameplay.

The best CSGO teams of all time have to go through a series of games where all they do is try to rank up.

The CSGO ranking system is one of the easiest to understand among other first-person shooter games out there. What are you waiting for? Make sure to rank up and dominate the battlefield!
