Boston Bruins

Historically, the Bruins have always been one of the most reliable teams in the NHL. They have the fourth-most Stanley Cups in history tied with the Chicago Blackhawks at six apiece.

As of January 11, 2023, the Bruins have 32 wins to their name with only four losses. Their number of losses is the fewest out of any NHL team which is a big deal because they are now considered the favourite to win the Stanley Cup.

They are strong on both sides of the rink

The Bruins look formidable in all aspects of the game but they truly shine on offence. They look more composed than any other team which is seen by how they play in front of the goal and how they look against any defensive system out there.

They are no slouches on defence either which is an important point because the Bruins have proven that they can keep the same energy whenever they play defence. They control most of the possessions but whenever they are looking to defend, they will keep the pressure on their opponents. That is a big deal for any player because the Bruins know they can impose their will on both ends of the rink.

Toronto Maple Leafs

In the same Atlantic Division, the Maple Leafs are trying to catch up to the Bruins. They have done a good job to keep up because as of January 11, 2023, they have 26 wins and only nine losses. This is crucial to their season because they have the momentum to keep up with the best teams in the league.

In terms of overall mobility, the Maple Leafs have some of the best skaters in the sport. John Tavares and William Nylander are two of the most talented players in the league and they have kept playing with that same energy at the highest level of the NHL.

The emergence of Matt Murray

As the goaltender for the Leafs, Murray has been stellar this season. He has shut the door for most of the players who tried to score goals on the Leafs. That is massive because the team can rely on a goalie to keep their net safe which is what Murray has done.

Reliability is a big characteristic of a good team and Murray has kept himself in the conversation as one of the most important players on the Leafs. That is crucial to their success considering that Tavares is still on the team as their main offensive option.

Las Vegas Golden Knights

Bouncing back from the 2021/22 season collapse was a big deal for the Golden Knights. They need to keep themselves in the conversation because they are talented enough to keep themselves at the highest level of hockey. They do not want to let the setback from the previous season cloud their judgment because they know they are talented and they should succeed moving forward.

Vegas’ strongest suit has to be its defence, especially since they can keep stopping their opponents from scoring. Any team can be good on offence but defending is pretty hard since most players will have to catch up to the speedy players but also they have to maintain their balance while skating at off and unnatural angles.

Dallas Stars

With a strong start to the season, the Dallas Stars have hope for the long-term future. This means that the Stars have a solid chance of winning more games heading into the playoffs. They may not be one of the Stanley Cup favourites but they have a good chance to make it far due to their strong start and how they can maintain this.

Their new head coach, Pete DeBoer, instilled new confidence in their team. They are the strongest due to their new offence under Pete as they play with pace and solid passing. The team feels fresh and that has contributed to their success moving forward.
