Daps returns to Evil Geniuses as its main CSGO coach
After eight months in the Valorant scene, Damian ‘daps’ Steele marked his return to CSGO. He is now the coach of EG after Wilton ‘zews’ Prado departed in early June 2021. Daps will be a big addition because he’s known as one of North American CSGO’s best strategic minds.
Daps was one of NA CSGO’s classic in-game leaders back in the day. He was the rock that kept NRG going and the reason why they were one of the best teams in the world.
They won two international titles with him as the IGL alongside players like Ethan ‘Ethan’ Arnold, Vincent ‘Brehze’ Cayonte and Tsvetelin ‘CeRq’ Dimitrov. They even went as far as being ranked fourth in the world but they couldn’t capitalize on it. They were a favourite among free CSGO skins bettors but it didn’t work out for the team in the end.
In EG, he is reunited with Brehze and CeRq who was one of NRG’s stars back then. Now, they are under the guidance of Daps again which can open up doors for the team in terms of success.
Daps spent 2020 as a Valorant player for both Cloud9 and Gen.G. Since those teams let him go, he is now back in the game that he played for eight years, now as a head coach of a prominent NA team.
He wants to rejuvenate the squad after poor finishes in four of their past five events. They finished last in those four runs which is disappointing since NA depends on EG to be known as one of the region’s best sides. It is a shame that they’ve lost multiple events, especially since they have a talented squad that can compete against any team in the world.
In a short statement addressing the news, daps made sure to make his goal clear. He wants to win as a coach.
He said, ‘Excited to start my coaching journey with the boys, happy to be back in CS’.
It will be interesting to see how daps will adjust to the new role and how they perform in the free CSGO skins betting stage. His coaching debut will be at the IEM Cologne Play-In which will be held online on July 6 and 7.
