When will the games take place?

Before The International (T11) 11 takes place, Valve requires all teams to participate in the Dota 2 2022 Dota Pro Circuit tournament. Valve just released The International 2022 esports schedule that includes all the important dates to pay attention to.

Here is the official The International 2022 esports calendar that will guide you through the key days for the big games.

Dota Pro Circuit 2022 calendar

First Tour

November 29, 2021 - January 23, 2022 (Done)

Second Tour

March 14, 2022 - April 24, 2022

Third Tour

June 6, 2022 - July 17, 2022

After Valve cancelled this year’s first Major, six regional finals took place in February. The West Eastern European, South East Asian, and South American teams played on February 11-13. On the other hand, the Chinese, Eastern European and North American teams participated in the regional finals on February 18-20.

At the end of the third season, the 12 best teams will move on to play The International 11. The last 6 spots will be decided by the regional last chance qualifier.

What to expect from each region for this upcoming season

Each region has incredible teams and players to watch out for. Usually, the best The International 2022 esports teams get to win more during the tournaments.

EASTERN EUROPE (EEU)

The Eastern Europe division is arguably the most competitive and skilled region in the Dota 2 esports scene. Home of The International 10 champions, Team Spirit, Eastern European esports fans are looking forward to the Regional Finals as The International (TI) is slowly approaching.

Obviously Team Spirit is favoured to win the upcoming TI once again after dominating a great team during the first tour, Virtus.pro. Moreover, rising teams like Hellraisers and As Monaco Gambit were very aggressive during the early parts of the season.

As the season wanes and the teams are shaping towards The International, more Eastern European teams will soon surface as the forces to be reckoned with.

WESTERN EUROPE (WEU)

While its Eastern counterpart has more stability and is home to the defending champions, the Western European division still has a lot of solid players and teams for the upcoming The International.

Potential teams who can represent The International are Team Liquid, Team Tickles, Tundra Esports, and OG. Players like Lucas Tao, Kilmer ‘Santorin’ Larsen and Søren ‘Bjergsen’ Bjerg are the top players of their regions.

While the other 3 teams are spectacular in their own way, Team Liquid looks to be the top team with the most experience and can actually go to The International in 2022. Their only loss came from Nigma Galaxy who didn’t even qualify for the The International.

Nevertheless, Western Europe can put a scare to even Team Spirit. Western Europe’s representatives may not be as flashy as they once were, but with experience, they too can put up a decent fight against the best of them.

SOUTHEAST ASIA (SEA)

The SEA server has some great teams as well, but their main issue has always been inconsistencies with The International 2022 esports roster.

Southeast Asia is the region that esports fans always underestimate, but had put up a great fight in the past that almost shaked up the season. However, there has never been a team that won the championship from this season yet, but they are still a menace during matches.

Like the recurring theme of SEA being underdogs, an unexpected victor rose to the top during Tour 1 last December 2021. BOOM Esports are surprisingly dominating their region despite having their roster changed.

While it isn’t quite realistic to count on a SEA roster to make it all the way to the TI, let alone win the whole competition, there are still great teams like Fnatic and T1 who can make some noise during the competitions.

NORTH AMERICA (NA)

More unstable with roster changes, North America is known to have incredible players but lacking the team synergy required to win. However, the Tour 1 matches proved that teams like Evil Geniuses and Undying are destined for greatness if given the right rosters.

Additionally, it’s incredible to see EG trying a new routine after the convincing two-time The International champion Jesse ‘JerAx’ Vainikka to come out of retirement and teaming him up with Egor ‘Nightfall’ Grigorenko who was a standout last 2021 season from Virtus.pro.

Both players swapped roles and still need time to adjust within the current EG system. The potential for this team to do well is high and nobody wants to miss a chance watching them play again this coming The International.

SOUTH AMERICA (SA)

When it comes to the pro South American teams, all have one thing in common and that is to excel in the off lane position. Mars, Tidehunter, and Kunkka were among a few heroes who graced through the Dota 2 map and found success in their roles.

As for the top-tier teams, Beastcoast is the pro esports team so far to come out of South America each year. That could be both a good thing and a bad thing. In all honesty, South America has not shown dominance in the Dota 2 pro scene lately.

They are simply outclassed by the better teams in Eastern Europe and North America, but this year can be different. South America signed almost all of NoPings esports' roster from last season. While that in itself deserves merit, it remains to be seen if they can make an impact in the competitions and hopefully make it to their first The International.

There are some challenges that Valve has to face to push through the most anticipated annual tournament. Fortunately, they found a way to organise the events despite the obstacles on the way.

With several teams vying for the top 2 spots in The International 11, it would be without question another unpredictable year where any team can bring home the trophy.
