How to bet on the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League

Cricket is one of the world’s most popular sports as it provides an undeniable thrill that makes it exciting to watch. As a niche sport that garners millions of streams across different platforms, people are interested to see the world’s best teams compete head-to-head against one another.

Across the world, there are several major cricket tournaments held to showcase the skills and athleticism of the teams. While some events are held domestically, there are several international cricket leagues as well. Such events are organised by the International Cricket Council (ICC). Among these is the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League which serves as a part of the Cricket World Cup qualification process.

The ICC World Cup or ICC Super League is a highly anticipated event that's popular among punters. In case you haven’t tried betting on it yet, here are a few things to learn more about it:

What is the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League?

The ICC World Cup Super League hosts intense matches among international teams as they all vie for the qualification spots in the World Cup. This league follows a one-day international (ODI) cricket format. It started last July 2020 and will end in May 2023 once it has fully filtered the best cricket teams. This is also the first time that this league is held.

The league has 13 participating teams — 12 of them being full members of the ICC and the other being the Netherlands who won the ICC World Cricket League Championship in 2015-2017 to qualify for the CWC Super League.

Aside from being part of the World Cup qualification, the competition also aims to raise the stakes of bilateral 50-over white ball cricket matches.

How the league started

The COVID-19 pandemic had an impact on the league's debut, causing the postponement of several series of games. In April 2020, the ICC stated that it would consider the league's future after it had a greater grasp of how the pandemic will affect the entire cricket industry.

The league's inaugural games, between England and Ireland, began on July 30, 2020. Due to the pandemic's effects, the ICC decided in March 2022 to postpone the tournament's cutoff date until May 2023, allowing the series between Ireland and Bangladesh to push through.

From there, fans have already started seeing competitive cricket odds for the Super League which can give them an idea about what to expect once cricket World Cup betting starts.

League format

The Super League cricket follows a partial round-robin league format in the two-year course of its event. This format requires each team to play against eight opponents—four at home and four away matches. Each of these will be played in a three-match series. This indicates that while every team will play the same amount of games, some teams may not play against all of the opponents in their group.

Each team will earn points that will push them up the points table of the tournaments. These points are determined by their performances in their matches. Here’s how many points teams can win:

  • Win → 10 points
  • No result or abandoned match →  5 points
  • Loss →  0 points

Participating teams

There are 13 teams who are actively competing for the ICC ODI Super League currently. These teams are:

  • England
  • New Zealand
  • India
  • Bangladesh
  • Pakistan
  • Australia
  • Afghanistan
  • West Indies
  • South Africa
  • Sri Lanka
  • Ireland
  • Zimbabwe
  • Netherlands

At the end of the Super League season, the top 8 teams will automatically qualify for the 2023 Cricket World Cup. Depending on how these teams perform, people will have an idea whether these teams can have a chance to be featured as favourites on cricket World Cup odds. Meanwhile, the bottom four teams will qualify for the 2023 Cricket World Cup Qualifier where only two of them will be promoted for a spot in the World Cup.

Top contenders

Now that you know more about the participating top cricket countries in the Super League, you may want to take a look at some of the teams who have been doing well in the competition. Some of them are:

  • England  → Former title holder England is currently on the top of the points table for the Super League. With their constant impressive performances, English fans are looking forward to the team landing a back-to-back win once they qualify for the World Cup once more.
  • New Zealand → Two-time World Cup runner-ups Black Caps are also doing well in the Super League and it seems like they are also in a close fight against England for the top spot. Should they maintain the same standing up until the World Cup finals, they may be able to recreate their matches from last season.
  • India (host) → Season host India isn’t backing down in showing off their prowess in ODI matches as they currency hold the title as the top OID team. With the country’s immense love for the sport, many Indian fans are hoping that the Men in Blue can continue giving off a great performance.
  • Bangladesh → In this season of the Super League, many people have been blown away by the constant impressive performances that the Bangladeshi team has been giving. With that, many fans are looking forward to seeing how they can perform in the World Cup once they qualify for it.

Popular cricket bets you can place at Gamdom

If you have an account at Gamdom, you can have a smooth crypto betting experience if you like betting on ODI Super League odds ahead of cricket world cup betting odds. If you aren’t that used to cricket betting yet, here are some of the bets you can place:

  • Match outcome → This allows you to wager on any of the two teams whom you think will win the specific match. You may refer to the odds to see how much you can win from this bet.
  • Series winner → Unlike the aforementioned, this type of wager is more inclined on the general results of the entire series and not just on a single match. You may place this bet when trying to predict who will be the top team overall.
  • Over/under score → On Gamdom or any other betting site, there is a specific score prediction for the matches. By placing this bet, you can make guesses on whether you think the actual score will be over or under the predicted score.
  • Top batsman and top bowler → Wager on who you think will be the best bowler and batter for each match. You can place separate bets on these two independent categories if you wish to.
  • Man of the match → Though each player is amazing, there will only be one best athlete each match. You can place this to bet on who you think will stand out the most.

Odds format you can use when betting at Gamdom

Aside from knowing the betting markets, you should also take time to understand the odds. What’s important is that aside from showing how much you can win, these odds give you a sense of who are the favourites and the underdogs as well.

By crypto betting at Gamdom, you have the freedom to switch up the odds format to find something that you’re most comfortable with. Here are the odds format you can choose from:

  • Decimal → This is one the most used odds format as it shows how much a punter can win for every dollar staked. The numbers denote the overall payout that will be given.
  • American → Also called moneyline odds, this is most notable for being denoted by positive (+) and negative (-) signs that indicate whether you’re betting on the underdog or favourite.
  • Fractional → This shows you the amount you can win and your initial stake. The numerator is the site’s anticipation for certain results while the denominator is the amount to bet.
  • Hong Kong → This format shows you how you can win for every unit you wager on. For example, markets with odds equal to 1 will make you win the same amount you have wagered.
  • Malaysian → These odds also use the plus (+) and minus (-) signs to show who the favourites and the underdogs are. Having odds equal to zero here means that punters can get even payouts.
  • Indonesian → This works similarly to American odds except for the fact that their numbers are divided by 100.

These are just some facts that you have to know about the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League and what makes it interesting to watch. As this tournament brings people closer to the World Cup, it becomes more interesting for sports fans to see which of the participating teams can be consistent with their performances. That way, it will be easier for punters to understand the odds while engaging in crypto betting at Gamdom.
