Best StarCraft 2 Players of All-Time

StarCraft 2 has seen a lot of players rise from being a nobody all the way to a world champion as they set the golden standard in the game.

Best StarCraft 2 Players of All-Time

StarCraft 2 has seen a lot of great players over the years. Some have risen for years while others reigned for a short period of time. StarCraft continues to be a game that keeps on bringing out the best from many players with every Major played after another.

There are many players who have written history in StarCraft. Some of them have won a lot of tourneys in an effort to leave their mark in the game. They would then go down as one of the best stars to ever play StarCraft and they have proved to be huge figures for others to follow.

There are many games that have been really attractive to gamers, such as CSGO thanks to its free CSGO skins, Dota 2, League of Legends and so on. However, StarCraft’s market has proven to be bigger for players all over the world, and it has been very successful so far.

Thanks to the intense AI and better graphics, StarCraft 2 has proven itself to be an easy game to play for many players. However, only a select few have managed to prove their place at the top of the game.

Jung ‘Mvp’ Jong Hyun

Mvp is known as one of the best Terran players in the game. He is a four-time GSL champ - winning the World CyberGames, Blizzcon, Major League Gaming and Intel Extreme Masters in his run. Before he came into StarCraft 2, Mvp was known as a pro player in the Brood War.

At the age of 17, he made the big switch to StarCraft 2 thanks to the prize pools that benefitted his social status. his StarCraft 2 gaming has also helped him carry his family’s financial needs.

Mvp’s move saw him enter the GSL January Code S, and he did not lose a single match before losing in the semis in just four games. Still, Mvp earned a lot of hype in his games. He has put up a whopping 92% win rate in playing Terran against Terran. Mvp ended that run with a 16-1 record, and he became the third player to also achieve the Triple Crown mark.

Lee ‘Life’ Seung Hyun

Life is one of the best players when it comes to Premier tourneys. He originally went with NEXLife before changing up his name. The 24-year-old began to step up in his games when he joined team ZeNEX back in March 2011 and became the youngest pro player on any South Korean side.

After some strong wins in his career, Life would become the game’s first Triple Crown winner who used Zerg. Being a young star has held him back at some points, but it also made him a favourite in many games.

Life became the youngest GSL champion at the age of 15 and was also the first royal roader of the StarCraft 2 era. His biggest run would be the 2012 GSL Blizzard Cup championship. Life was down 0-2 in the final before he managed to claw his way back to the top and won four games in a row to finish it 4-2.

Joo ‘Zest’ Sung Wook

Zest is one of the formidable players who came in during the hype of Wings of Liberty. His first games were played in the 2011-12 Proleague Season 2, where he ended with a total of five wins and four losses.

After a few years, Zest rose to bigger heights and even proved that he can keep on winning huge games. The star has pulled off a lot of massive wins even against lead stars in his early years.

Zest was seen as a shocker by many fans and players. He has the ability to take down the favourites and prove his worth as the best player in a tourney even if he was seeded way lower than most stars. That is how he earned his nickname ‘The Kingslayer’.

Riccardo ‘Reynor’ Romiti

Reynor is arguably the best Zerg player in StarCraft. The Italian star currently plays for Team QLASH and started his path at a very young age. Reynor rose to prominence at the age of 11 and his rapid growth in the game made him a hit star and played in Italian LANs, along with The Game Championship 2013 and 1st Next SC2 Tournament.

His rise to StarCraft was really a hyped run for many players. Reynor’s recent run at the IEM Katowice 2021 brought him to the top of the game once more. The Zerg phenom closed out ‘Zest’ in just six games to claim one of the biggest titles in StarCraft 2. Reynor also claimed key wins in the playoffs against three other Korean stars in Kim ‘Stats’ Dae Yeob, Park ‘Dark’ Ryung-woo, and Cho ‘Maru’ Seong Ju en route to the final.

He is the first foreigner to ever win the IEM event and the second foreigner World Champion after Serral in 2018. That feat really made Reynor a popular icon in StarCraft 2, and he continues to raise the bar the same way that free CSGO skins make the Valve shooter game popular as well.

Joona ‘Serral’ Sotala

Serral hails from Finland and is also a Zerg player. Despite keeping a low profile, the star has won a lot of Majors in his career. He is the only player to qualify for all of the 2017 WCS Circuit Events through the European Qualifiers.

He even wrote history in the same competition when he won all of the events back in 2018. It was his grit that allowed his Zerg to push through big games as well. Serral is one of the few non-Korean players to win the Triple Crown

Serral has proven his worth as one of the best stars of all time and is regularly seen in recent tourneys along with Reynor. This is why he is still one of the reigning stars in the game.

With more players rising up in the game, it is easy to expect more intense action in StarCraft games. There are tourneys set in the coming months that players would surely not let the chance slip past them.
