Download Arena of Valor app

Arena of Valor is a MOBA game developed by TiMi Studio Group, a subsidiary of Tencent Interactive Entertainment, and published internationally by Level Infinite and Garena. Thus, it can be downloaded from various app stores for Android and iOS devices. It is also available on the Nintendo Switch under Tencent Games’ direct publishing.

Different ways to sign up

Making an account in Arena of Valor is as easy as downloading it. The traditional method is to register your username, address, and password within the app. Alternatively, you can log in using Facebook or Garena so you can link your Arena of Valor progress with those platforms.

If you opted for the traditional way, then you can link your Facebook and/or Garena accounts later. Doing so lets you share your progress and achievements with your friends on social media.

Play the tutorial

Upon signing up, you will be playing through the tutorial provided by the game. It will show you what you need to know in combat like how to control your hero, how to identify enemies, what each unit does, and more. Every unit on the screen is computer-operated so take your time getting the hang of the controls and abilities.

The game ends when you destroy the enemy nexus. There will be another tutorial after that pinning you in a 5v5 scenario with other pliers. These are low-tier players who are just starting at the same time as you so everyone will be on the same level.

The purpose of this tutorial is to show you how a teamfight works and the importance of moving around the map rather than staying in just one lane. Complete the game by destroying the enemy’s nexus or letting yours be destroyed to officially end the tutorial.

Being familiar with the main menu

This Arena of Valor beginner guide will be focusing on the main menu which you can freely explore right after completing the 5v5 tutorial. It comes with different buttons leading to other important pages in the game. The arrangement on the main menu can change after a major update but there are always buttons leading you to these important parts of the game:

Shop

The shop is where you can unlock new items like heroes and skins. You can earn in-game currencies called ‘gold’ after playing PvP matches as well as completing events. Some items can only be bought using premium currencies called Arena of Valor gems which you can also buy at the shop using real money.

You can buy them through various online payment methods, similar to making casino deposits. Such purchases will require you to link a payment method to your game account like credit/debit cards or e-wallets.

Bag

The bag is a simple menu where all collectable and consumable items are placed. You can collect these as rewards from playing matches and from event missions. These items can either be pieces used to unlock a hero, new cosmetic items, or boost your rewards from the next match. The bag lets you manage all of these in one universal heads-up display (HUD).

Heroes

All of the playable characters are called ‘heroes’ and going to the page called ‘Heroes’ will bring you to the menu where you can view all of them. You can navigate this HUD by scrolling up and down, using the search engine, or browsing through categories. It tells you who you own and have yet to unlock as well as their dedicated role and their abilities.

Armory

Arena of Valor is a competitive game of progression aided by the use of items. All of these can only be bought and assembled in the middle of battle but you can plan what you need to build beforehand through the armoury. This is where your mastery of the hero and game is tested because you will have to find which item synergises with your favourite character. You also need to consider when an item is effective or what alternative to go for if the situation calls for it.

Career

Careers take you to menus that track your progress. One takes note of your rank which only increases whenever you play a competitive game called a ‘ranked match’. The other shows you points you’ve earned for completing tasks given in an event or weekly missions. Both progression rewards you if you reach a certain level but what you get varies per season.

Mode

Mode is where you can find different formats to play in Arena of Valor. It consists of two major categories namely versus mode and arcade mode respectively. Versus means you will play against other players while arcade gives you a series of tasks to complete as challenges. You can dedicate your time and effort to just one format or try each one on different days depending on your mood.

Important concepts in Arena of Valor

Arena of Valor is a competitive game so it has complex systems that players need to understand to improve. Here are those concepts, what they mean, and what’s under them that will help you in your journey as a gamer:

Hero and classes

Heroes are the playable units each with their own strengths, weaknesses, and matchup dynamics with the rest of the roster. Classes refer to their general design style to indicate what is expected of them in-game. Here are those classes and what they generally do:

Class nameDescription
TankThey are known for having the best defence in the game. Tanks’ abilities don’t deal heavy damage but they can pressure enemies into making a mistake, enabling their more offensive allies.
WarriorThey are as resistant as tanks but their abilities are built to engage enemies while allies back them up. Some warriors are designed for 1v1 fights, making them great at disabling enemies’ strategies involving map control.
AssassinThey have the highest potential damage output and generally have the best mobility. However, they have low defence and are ineffective at prolonged fights. Thus, assassins just need to move in, take out a target, then run.
MageThey are ineffective at prolonged combat but they have powerful abilities that can affect a whole area. Mages can therefore demolish a battlefield from a distance, making them high-priority targets for assassins.
ArcherDespite the name, heroes in this class can use all kinds of projectiles. Archers have low defence but they’re great at prolonged combat against any other enemies so long as they don’t get stunned. Their role is to inflict as much damage as possible while the rest of the party engages the enemies.
SupportThis class has a wide variety of heroes. Some are meant to heal allies so they can keep fighting while others are designed to debilitate the enemies.

Despite having a clear difference between each class, many heroes have playstyles that evolve into a hybrid of two or three. Classes only help new players assume what is expected of a certain hero at a glance. The best way to improve is to explore all possibilities present in Arena of Valor’s evolving gameplay.

Damage types

There are only two damage types in Arena of Valor namely physical and magic damage. Likewise, each one is also countered by a specific type of defence. Physical damage is mitigated by armour while magic damage is dampened by magic defence.

Each hero is great at only one of either physical or magical damage so you have to plan your items around them. If you need help deciding what to make, refer to an Arena of Valor items guide and set it up in your armoury.

Control schemes

The fundamental controls in Arena of Valor are universal for all heroes. Character movement is at the bottom left of the screen called the analogue. Opposite it is the attack button which you will tap to attack the nearest unit. Arena of Valor control schemes Each hero has three abilities namely two basics and one ultimate. They can be found on the lower right corner of the screen surrounding the attack button.

Analogue input

The analogue stick moves in all directions, allowing you to control your character using a flexible input. It comes in handy when trying to dodge enemies’ skillshots. The same analogue input is present in some abilities, allowing you to aim or choose targets.

Hud

The HUD can change mid-match. Sometimes, effects that can increase or decrease your character’s stats will appear as tiny icons on your screen. This only happens when their effects are active so you’ll know if you’re at your best or worst mid-game. Change your plans accordingly to avoid misplays or take advantage of opportunities.

How to win in Arena of Valor

Winning in Arena of Valor is to simply destroy the enemy’s nexus. Complexity comes when you have to determine how to keep the enemies from destroying yours. Then, you have to consider how your enemy is preventing you from winning or countering your strategies that protect your base. These back and forth strategies are what make games like Arena of Valor exciting.

The quickest way to improve is to look up veteran players’ Arena of Valor tips. Many of these are inspired by pro players’ actions that brought them to championship events that you can bet on at Gamdom. Learning from professionals is a path you can take to be more competitive in the same game. That’s the secret to winning in Arena of Valor.
