Blazing Fire: CSGO Weapons Guide

CSGO has put up a number of weapons in the game and made an effort to improve the overall design and experience over the years.

Blazing Fire: CSGO Weapons Guide

CSGO has offered a lot of changes in the game dating back from the first game back in 1998. At the moment, there are a total of 34 weapons in the game, and it has been subject to many changes like every other part of the game. Fans loved how the game evolved a lot ever since.

There are a total of 25 weapons in most games prior to the launch of CSGO in 2012. 19 weapons have been added since then, and 10 of those are replacements of old weapons. The game’s weapons are central to combat, and players need these to deal damage to opponents.

Taking out other players in the game can lead to rewards, round wins, and in-game cash of course. CSGO players can only carry one primary, one secondary and a melee weapon in addition to carries such as grenades and shields. Weapons can be picked up upon taking out a player as well. Take note that there are some free CSGO skins for each weapon type as well.

In every single game, even in CSGO tournaments, players start out with the faction pistol upon spawning. Those pistols can be attached with silencers and always come out with the stock melee weapon. After every round, players can earn in-game cash and buy better weapons, and every win means more cash gained along with bonuses on kills and bombs defused or planted.

CSGO has put in a lot of variables in all of the weapons. Factors such as recoil, rate of fire, aimpunch and hitscan play a big role in the overall effectiveness of each weapon. Considering those factors, players are always careful in choosing their weapons. That led to the evolution of player roles in most CSGO teams in today’s game.

Some weapons even have some interesting abilities. Some pistols and rifles such as the M4A1 and K&M .45 Tactical can be equipped with silencers. Certain sniper rifles and assault rifles have the option to use variable zooms and even cameras.

Weapon Categories

Assault rifles, sniper rifles, submachine guns and shotguns make up the bulk of the primary weapons that players can use in the game. All pistols serve as secondary weapons and melee weapons come into play at all times.

These categories allow players to shuffle through their arsenal and keep the game intense. We have seen a lot of changes in those roles. More teams are opting to skip out on shotgun users and tend to skip on those weapons. The modern player roles have put a lot of players vying to use AWPs, and there is clearly a lot to talk about when it comes to the various roles in the game.

Some teams tend to put up a lineup with a lone assault rifle user and would sometimes opt to use the SMGs instead. The diversity of weapons allow everyone to experience a fun experience in games as those categories are made to put players in a position to enjoy every different gun.

Melee Weapons

The only melee weapon featured in the early Counter-Strike games is the knife. It works well in close range but it is very lethal and makes killing smooth and with little noise. Unlike some other shooter games, the melee weapons in CSGO cannot be used as throwing knives. The game has opted to stick with the traditional use to maintain the strafe and shoot combat.

CSGO has evolved the game on many levels and that clearly saw the addition of more melee weapons. Versions of the classic knife came out, such as the Karambit, M9 Bayonet and so many more.

Skins are also added to the melee weapons. Most of the time they feature colours on the blade itself and add some designs on the handle. Since then, more players have opted to use these weapons while flexing out their skins and stickers in the game.

Secondary Weapons

Unlike the other shooter games, CSGO did not allow players to use weapons such as rifles, shotguns and SMGs to serve as the secondary weapons in the game. Instead, they retained the same setting they have as pistols in the secondary weaponry.

Pistols serve as the starting weapon for all players and for respawning if they were taken out in a round. These guns are weak in terms of firepower and range, not to mention the small magazine capacity.

Despite these limitations, these weapons do pack a punch as they are a little bit accurate with low recoil and faster reload speed. Most CSGO teams teach their players to pull out the sidearm instead of reloading the primary weapon in combat.

Machine pistols have been added in the category as well, and CSGO has put up a set number for speed depending on the weapon used.

Primary Weapons

Shotguns serve as the next level after pistols. They are used well in close combat situations and are favoured in maps with tight turns and small spaces. Players enjoy the firing power and the absolute damage dealt by shotguns on close range, but they suffer the same punch when it comes to long range.

Shotgun pellets are scattered and are likely to hit targets in a tight area. They are heavily favoured on showdown maps such as Dust2 considering the fact that they are really cheap and easy to manage compared to rifles.

Prior to CSGO, only two shotguns were used in the other games. The Leone 12 Gauge Super and the Leone YG1265 Auto Shotgun were the prominent ones for more than a decade of gaming. Still, both suffer from heavy speed and range penalties, but they can do a one-hit kill on anyone at close range.

Most shotguns cannot fire underwater as well, and more of them were introduced when CSGO came into play.

SMGs are loved by a lot of pro players in CSGO tournaments. These weapons are very cheap and cost below $2500 in the game. They are chosen for high rate of fire, with little to no speed reduction and low to moderate recoil.

These weapons are good for close to medium range combat and can mow down enemies on sight with the rapid-fire features. That means a lot when it comes to the cash-strapped teams and can actually make up a whole squad.

Assault rifles are fairly expensive weapons that pack a serious punch. They have very high damage and recoil and are clearly on the frontlines in every game. You cannot see a game that goes without a single assault rifle.

Most of these weapons are designed for medium to long range combat. They also have relative speed reduction and also have some unique abilities. Weapons such as FAMAS feature a burst-fire option and the M4A1 still retains its detachable suppressor in the previous games.

Sniper Rifles and Machine Guns

While both of these weapon classes still count as primary weapons, they are considered to be very special thanks to their expensive price tag and very serious damage in the game. These weapons are the most precious ones in CSGO and are a big factor in tight games.

Sniper rifles are very important in today’s game. The role of AWPers requires them to use one of the most lethal weapons in the game, the AWP. However, rifles such as the Schmidt Scout, SSG 08, and the AWP are only known as bolt-action rifles and fire only one shot at a time.

Rifles such as the Krieg 550 Commando, SCAR 20 and G3SG1 are semi-automatic and fire like just the common assault rifles. The high killing spectrum and wide damage that these weapons can deal with make their prices really high, however, crosshairs don’t work in these.

Machine guns are designed for suppression and defence, and they are mostly favoured by those who are playing on the Terrorists’ side. Before CSGO, the M249 was the sole machine gun in the game and was priced at $5750.

The addition of Negev in 2012 allowed players to pick from two machine guns and eventually put up great numbers of skins as well. Players tend to use machine guns when it comes to taking out groups or pockets of players in an area.

CSGO weapons may have a lot of varieties, but players can play with each type whenever and whatever they choose to do so. Sure, the gameplay experience changes when it comes to the role you get for your weapon choice, but winning is still the end of it.

The free CSGO skins made it fair for players to put up a personal touch in their weapons to allow a little bit of human element to settle in the game. So far, it has been good for the game, and we have seen the growth of even more players in the recent years.
