What are the best CSGO events to watch in the 2022 season?
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive had an awesome 2021 season which ended with Natus Vincere winning the first Valve Major event in two years. With that, fans are excited about the upcoming 2022 season. Let’s talk about the top events coming this year.
When it comes to pure excitement, there are little to no esports games that are more exciting than CSGO at the moment. The tail end of the 2021 season when crowds were present was proof that the esports world needed that energy. Of course, COVID-19 has not yet faded away which means that some events will still have no crowd.
However, some events can still be fun especially with elite teams around the world. Na’Vi will defend their crown as the best team in the world and other squads have retooled to have a chance at a Valve Major title this year.
This includes teams like G2 Esports and FaZe Clan who are all looking to compete at the highest level. Now, here is the CSGO biggest tournament where these teams will duke it out.
Intel Extreme Masters Katowice
When you spot ESL is at the helm in your CSGO tournament schedule, you can always expect that they will put on some exciting tournaments. They always have good coverage but they also provide solid working conditions with clean hotel rooms and training areas for the teams that are present. In partnership with Intel, ESL will surely have a good tournament to start the CSGO season with Intel Extreme Masters Katowice in Poland.
This has become a staple of the CSGO scene since Poland is one of the most underrated countries in esports. The old Virtus.Pro squad hailed from Poland with its players and led the team to a lot of achievements in CSGO history.
This has made the country a haven for CSGO players even if they haven’t been at the top of the scene for a long time. The country has made an impact on the scene and their fans are usually receptive to any team that plays in front of their crowd.
It isn’t confirmed just yet that there will be fans in attendance but you can expect that the first massive CSGO event of the year will have teams looking to prove themselves.
The format will be similar to all IEM events including a double-elimination group stage and a single-elimination CSGO tournament bracket with best-of-three series while the grand final will be a best-of-five
LAN Sweet LAN 2022
In April 2022, Relog Media will hold a tournament in Serbia called LAN Sweet LAN. This is a unique name for a tournament but it will have 16 teams duking it to be the best team around the world. There are already some teams that have qualified for the event which includes MOUZ, OG, Complexity, and many more.
As a tournament held in Belgrade, Serbia, this will be a unique event. Events do not usually happen in this country but you should expect some rabid fans in attendance. Eastern Europe is probably the biggest market for CSGO and Serbians are usually passionate about their support.
Fans have been missing for a long time in esports and while CSGO has already had a track record of amazing tournaments, it is challenging to set up a tournament when COVID is still around. LAN Sweet LAN will surely house some awesome matches because of the quality of the teams that have already qualified and the orgs that will be invited sometime soon.
IEM Dallas
Another part of the IEM circuit, this event will be unique because CSGO tournaments are not held often in North America. When it does, you should expect a solid experience. People will always look at the ELeague Major in Boston in 2018 as one of the best esports events of all time. t NA team Cloud9 was the victor of the tournament as they proved that their region can keep up.
Dallas will be fun especially since it’s the halfway point of the year in June. Esports fans should expect that roster changes will happen after this event because they already had a half-a-year to look back on. They will look at the rest of the year and possibly see a change that they can implement.
There are no teams yet but you should expect some awesome performances from the teams that are looking to succeed in IEM. The Grand Slam is a huge reward for CSGO teams including past winners, Na’Vi and Team Liquid.
The Valve Major/s
There hasn’t been any confirmation regarding Valve Major events but it will be a shame if the fans lose out on another one. They would like fans in attendance but the world’s COVID situation has to settle down.
There have been some prospective locations set for Majors. The long-rumoured IEM Rio Major is in play because that was supposed to be held back in 2020 but it has been delayed for a long time due to COVID. Thankfully, you can expect the changes to the format will be minimal as the CSGO tournament bracket works well.
Other event organizers have popped up because ESL will have to take care of it when IEM is present. However, there are other orgs in play with the likes of WePlay, DreamHack, and BLAST Prom looking to compete for the esports’ top spot.
It is unclear whether or not 2022 will only have one Major or multiple instances because Valve wants to be proactive with its treatment of COVID. Some untapped markets would love a CSGO Major in their country. Europe is always a good bet for these CSGO events because countries like Sweden, Denmark, Germany, and the entirety of Eastern Europe are all willing to host the event.
These are just a few of the CSGO events that you should look forward to. ESL will always be a top choice but there should be a sprinkle of events from BLAST, DreamHack, WePlay, and many more to help hold the CSGO biggest tournament possible. You will have access to a CSGO tournament schedule where you can find the best ones to watch outside of the choices here.
