The Different Rarity Tiers of CSGO Weapon Skins

There are a lot of weapon skins in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. There are also some rare skins out there with different rarity grades. CSGO skins are a simple concept but there is a lot of depth within the game’s cosmetic system. You will look at these skins and you might see what sets them apart when it comes to rarity.

You have to pay attention to the colour mark that is given to them. There are a total of eight weapon rarity marks that you see in this game. You should remember that it is different from the quality of the weapon skin itself like the ‘Factory New’ weapons. This is not the quality of how the skin looks like as this focuses on the rarity of the skin itself.

The following are the rarity grades themselves:

  • Consumer grade (White) = Common
  • Industrial grade (Light Blue) = Uncommon
  • Mil-spec (Blue) = Rare
  • Restricted (Purple) = Mythical
  • Classified (Pink) = Legendary
  • Covert (Red) = Ancient
  • Melee Weapons (Bright Gold) = Exceedingly Rare
  • Contraband items (Dark Gold) = Immortal

These are all important to take note of because if you get a Legendary skin, you are set to participate in things like CSGO betting. That is the benchmark value and having something above that kind of quality, will net you a skin with a lot of value on the Steam Community Market, various free CSGO skins guides or even on CSGO skin betting.

Let us talk further about these rarity grades more in depth because you might be asking yourself if there is really a difference between all of these grades. First up is the Consumer grade or the most commonly associated with the white colour of the text.

Consumer grade

This is the most common and widespread of skins. This is a rarity that you usually see drop after a game of CSGO and they do not really that good aesthetically. They are simple colour finishes or even messed up skins.

There are some prolific skins in this grade including the PP-Bizon’s Seabird skin which is well known for being an actually decent skin for the value. However, it still looks inferior when it comes to comparing it to the higher-grade skins.

This is good for Trade Up contracts which you can use to get higher-rarity weapons. Use about 10 Consumer grade weapons, you will get an Industrial grade skin.

Industrial grade

This is a little bit rarer than the Consumer grade skins but it is still quite common. They are also dropped at times when you play some competitive games. This is where you see some skins that are better when it comes to aesthetics. You would find skins that have definitive patterns that really makes the weapons pop, however it is still not that good-looking all things considered.

Of course, there are still some prolific skins in this grade. The Candy Apple skin is one of the most popular skins in the game because of how simple and how good it looks. It is just a simple black finish with some bright red accents that really make it pop.

Mil-Spec

This is where the weapon cases come into play. There are a lot of cases on the market but you also have to have the keys to unlock them. You can see the quality of these skins actually becoming good as they fit well with the weapon itself.

There are a lot of good skins in this grade including the Glock-18’s Sacrifice skin which actually looks really good for the grade. It is also cheaper than most clocking at around more than a dollar. The StatTrak edition does go up to about six dollars which is still a good deal all things considered.

Restricted

This is much more difficult to get compared to the previous grades. This is usually received from weapon case openings or even Trade Up contracts using Mil-Spec grade weapons. This is a tough grade to get but it still has the most skins.

Restricted skins are usually seen as the sweet spot for both CSGO skins trading and investing. The price can range from a few dollars to dozens. There are even some skins that stretch up to the $100 mark. One of the most prolific skins in this grade is Atheris skin AWP.

Classified

The difficulty to get the skin continues to ramp up when talking about the Classified grade. It is very similar to the Restricted grade but it just has better skins and a pricier. They are both received from weapon case openings or Trade Up contracts but that is a little bit harder this time.

It is seen as another sweet spot when it comes to CSGO skins betting and trading. A prominent skin in this grade will have to be a Hellfire M4A4 which is one of the most used in the pro scene.

Covert

The rarest weapons in the game come from the Covert grade. You have likely seen this in a free CSGO skins guide. These are mostly assault rifles and AWPs which are the most used weapons in the game. A lot of the designs are very intricate but it is also pleasing to the eye. There are a lot of unique skins here and they fetch a hefty amount when traded. It is hard to get but worth it to trade or even bet if you are feeling confident.

Contraband

There is actually only one skin in the game that has this grade and that is the M4A4 Howl. It is one of the most coveted skins in the game because of its design and its popularity. It is very rare and it fetches an extremely high price.

Legendary

Basically, the skins from this grade are all of the CSGO knife skins and gloves that you see. Of course, those fetch hefty prices which really punctuates the Legendary tag. They are known as exceedingly rare items and they range from a couple of hundred dollars to absurd prices that reach thousands of dollars.

There are the different rarity tiers in CSGO, you might be interested in getting into the skin game and it is fun. Just be patient and you will find your own skin that you will love for the rest of your time as a CSGO player.
