Best esports events to watch out for this year
Coming into the second half of the year, it seems there are still more tourneys left to play for most eSports. With a lot of options, punters can go with a list of Majors to watch as fans hope to see the intense action they have been waiting for a long time.
CSGO, Valorant, Dota 2, StarCraft and even League of Legends all have their respective events in the coming months, and this is why it is going to be a long stretch ahead as fans go one game to another to see the best games they can watch at each tourney.
There is a lot to expect from these eSports so far. A lot has happened to open up 2021 such as shifts of power, some contenders falling, and other teams rising to prominence. It is a new trend with most players and teams missing out on the big stage in 2020 due to the pandemic which held back gatherings.
Here are some of the eSports events you can look forward to.
CSGO: PGL Major Stockholm 2021
CSGO’s PGL Major: Stockholm 2021 or more known as PGL Major 2021 is the 16th Major tourney for the game. It is set to take place in Stockholm, Sweden from October 23 to November 7, 2021. There are a total of 24 teams that will battle it out via regional major rankings.
The competition has a prize pool of $2,000,000 - a huge rise from the $1,000,000 from the past Majors due to the lack of offline tourneys due to the pandemic. It is also the second competition hosted by the Romanian company PGL since PGL Major: Krakow 2017. Stockholm 2021 is the second Major to be hosted after IEM Katowice 2021 since missing out for almost a year on tourneys.
Astralis is the reigning champions. They are set to defend their title and are aiming to secure this win after falling short in the IEM Katowice 2021 - where they fell early to then champs Gambit Esports.
Astralis holds the most number of Majors won in CSGO history with a total of four titles. They hope to add this one to the tally as they still keep the lead in the global rankings. A lot of betting sites will surely be active at this point in time, and even Gamdom would not hesitate to give out some free CSGO skins as well.
StarCraft 2: DreamHack Masters Summer 2021
The DreamHack Masters are back for the summer edition, and there is no reason for SC2 to hold back in their tourneys. The success of IEM Katowice 2021 marked the return for StarCraft as most fans expected a huge competition at the very least.
Riccardo ‘Reynor’ Romiti is the reigning champ for the latest SC2 Major. Now he is set to take a step back in the tourney after being taken down by Clement ‘Clem’ Desplanches in the Europe edition of the competition. He still has a chance to play for this one and will likely improve his games to make sure he does not drop one more match.
This just means there is a chance for a new champion coming in and it is going to be a big battle between the regional winners. The competition is set to take place on July 1 and will wrap up on July 4th with a prize pool of $50,000.
Dota 2: The International 10
The International 10 is the closing tourney of the Dota Pro Circuit for this year’s edition. This one is the tenth edition of the said competition and makes a big return to Europe since 2011. It is set to take place at the Avicii Arena in Stockholm, Sweden.
The invite format is closely similar to the past few The Internationals. A point system is used based on official counts from the Regional Leagues and Majors which will see the teams invited to the competition.
TI10 was first set to take place from August 18th to 23rd, 2020. Due to the pandemic, the event had to be held back until 2021, and Valve later announced in May 2021 that the event will now take place from August 5 to 13, 2021.
With a prize pool of $40,018,195, teams will surely do their best to try and win the tourney. So far, the likes of Evil Geniuses, Virtus.pro, Invictus Gaming and Team Secret are all set for the said competition thanks to their DPC rankings.
Valorant: Champions Tour 2021 Stage 3
Valorant’s VCT Stage 3 is set to take place this September 9 to 19 in Berlin. The rising Riot Games shooter proved to be a better game than ever since its launch in 2020. With a tourney coming in, this will surely boost the popularity of the shooter as well.
The prize pool is yet to be announced but fans expect a big one to topple CSGO’s PGL Major. While there are no free CSGO skins to win in this one, Valorant’s hype continues to prove that there are many chances for the game to make itself known all over the world.
The decision not to go with the same dates as CSGO’s Major was a smart one, and this means will help to make the event successful.
LoL: LCS Summer 2021
The League Championship Series 2021 Summer is the 18th North American LCS run and the third of the year. Compared to the past summer splits, the Summer 2021’s split’s Group Stage is set to carry over the records from the Spring Group Stage as well.
This means the starting records will be based on the Spring Group Stage’s final rankings. It allows more consistent teams to take their place in the tourney as well.
This one is currently ongoing and will wrap up in August 2021. The Los Angeles tourney has a prize pool of $200,000 - which is small enough compared to Dota 2’s TI10.
With a lot of tourneys left to watch, fans will surely keep on hoping that they can see all the best action from their favourite players and teams in the long run.
