The complete guide to the different roulette bets

Roulette is one of the most popular classic table games that both online and land-based casino players love to play. Although roulette is one of the oldest casino games, it remains one of the most played due to its intriguing and fun.

Other reasons why roulette is popular among various types of players is it’s a complex game with many betting options and high payouts. The game can also be challenging in a way that requires you to understand the roulette bets, odds, and payout in detail to maximise your chances of winning.

What makes playing roulette games more fun are the betting options you can wager on. If you are new to playing roulette and don’t know the different roulette bet payouts, playing the game can be overwhelming. To help you have the best roulette betting experience, here’s everything you need to know:

Roulette bets and payouts

Roulette is one of the easiest table games you can play but it can be a complex one because of the different bets that come with it. Two of the most common roulette bets are outside and inside bets. Aside from these two, there are more roulette bets you can place depending on your strategy and gameplay.

To learn more about the different roulette bets and payouts, read below:

Outside bets

Players who want to play it safe often palace outside bets in online roulette games. These bets are placed outside of the betting layout and are not placed on one specific number. It could be on a group of numbers or colours. Outside bets consist of the following:

  • Red or black → This is one of the easiest and most common roulette bets you can place. In this bet, you are wagering on whether the winning number will be red or black.
  • Odd or even → Odd or even bet follows the same concept as red or black bets wherein the odds are 1:1. In this bet, you predict whether the winning number is odd or even.
  • High or low → Predict whether the winning number will fall in the first 18 slots or the last 18. The odds of winning on a wager with even money odds are less than 50%.
  • Column → There are three columns of numbers on the roulette wheel for a total of 36 possible combinations. Zero is not part of any of those columns. In this bet, your roulette payouts stand at 2:1 with odds of 32.40%.
  • Dozens → Similar to the column bets, this wager consists of 12 numbers and offers a payout of 2:1. This bet covers 12 numbers on the table and you can bet on the first, second, or third dozens of numbers.

Inside bets

Bets that are placed in the inner part of the roulette table where the numbers are shown are called inside bets. These bets consist of the following:

  • Straight → This bet allows you to wager on any single number on the table. If the ball lands on your wagered number, you win.
  • Split → Unlike straight bet, split betting entails not betting on just one number, but on the line between them. You win if any of the two numbers is drawn.
  • Street → Street is another way you can bet on any number within a row of three numbers. The first three digits of a street's number are always the same and the full payout in roulette for this bet is 11:1.
  • Corner → Also known as ‘four-number’ bets or ‘square bets’, this wager entails betting one out of four numbers instead of two numbers. If you win your bet, you get a payout of 8:1.
  • Basket → A basket bet is based on the ball hitting numbers 0,1,2, or 3. This wager is also called the ‘first four’ bet and it pays out 6:1.
  • Double street → This bet entails wagering on six numbers in two conjoining streets. If your bet wins, you receive a payout of 5:1.

Call bets

Aside from outside and inside bets, frequent roulette players also opt for call bets. These bets can only be applied on European or French roulette. Instead of placing bets at the table, betting is done by calling out or announcing your bet. Call bets consist of the following:

  • Neighbours of zero → This bet involves 17 numbers including the area around the zero on the roulette wheel. In neighbours of zero, if the ball lands within one number of zero, you win.
  • Zero game → This bet is a short version of the neighbours of zero wager wherein it only includes the numbers directly adjacent to the zero slot. This bet involves a total of 7 numbers.
  • Thirds of the wheel → This wager contains the same 12 digits including 27 and 33 similar to columns and dozens bets.
  • The orphans → If a number is not included in either the neighbours of zero or the thirds of the wheel, they are considered orphans. The roulette wheel features 8 orphans.
  • Neighbours → This bet means you're wagering on a number plus the two adjacent numbers on either side. The bet often includes a total of five numbers.
  • Finals → This is the only bet you can place on a roulette table with one zero. This bet means you’re making a bet on the final number.

When playing roulette, you can maximise your gameplay by taking advantage of the various wagers. If you’re going to play the game at online roulette casinos such as Gamdom, you can also claim casino bonuses to boost your chances of winning bigger roulette bet payouts.
