Staging Intense Games: Beyond the Summit

CSGO continues to showcase bigger and intense matches in 2021. After a pandemic-riddled 2020 run, Beyond the Summit is one of the early tournaments which presented more chances for teams to push their pace in 2021, and the games are better than ever so far.

Beyond the Summit, more known as BTS, is focused on creating unique shows and events for multiple games, such as Dota 2, Mortal Kombat and of course, CSGO. It is considered a pillar for the games and following the recent conclusion of the cs_summit 7, fans are surely delighted with the coming tournaments as well.

BTS has played a big role in setting the tone for the rest of the 2021 tour. Most teams have been waiting for 2021’s event and this only means that there are more to expect for the game at this point in the season.

Thanks to the recent success of the tournament, teams and players are getting ready to come up with the best they can for the rest of the year's events. There are many games ahead in 2021, and CSGO can expect teams and players to take part with a much bigger motivation following the finish at the cs_summit 7.

Early History of Beyond the Summit

Beyond the Summit came into play in the eSports production and broadcast media back in March 2012. Based in Los Angeles, BTS prided itself on creating quality content while focusing on showcasing talent on their shows. As a pioneer in the industry, it became a leader in viral content for the eSports side.

BTS began as a Dota 2 casting project and soon expanded into a community support site with more games and stood as the premier Dota 2 studio. In the past few years, the company has reached out to come up with key events in different games.

With a wide variety of game developers as well as brands and tournament organisers, BTS has seen success in their events for certain games. The likes of Smash Ultimate Summit, Mainstage and Space Hub have been viral along with their CSGO and Dota shows. There are no free CSGO skins from Beyond the Summit, but then the show presents some of the best teams in the world.

The broadcasts from BTS have been seen in over 110 countries all over the world. Their shows also appear on both linear and digital TV outlets while having a total of 3.5 million followers on their social media channels.

With the goal of putting talent on the biggest events all over the world, Beyond the Summit has been great when it comes to putting up authentic content and impressive gaming shows. They have strived to put the people who have worked well when it comes to showing the eSports events.

Over the years, this only shows that Beyond the Summit has proved itself as a platform for the popular games to showcase their best teams and players. The recent cs_summit showed the best games that 2021 has to offer, and it is just the beginning.

Past Series and Champions

CSGO events in Beyond the Summit began action in 2017. The cs_summit 1 was held in Los Angeles at the Summit House back in April 2017. There were only eight teams in attendance fighting for a $150,000 prize pool.

The playoffs had a double elimination bracket and all of those matches were played in a best of three series. The Grand Final, however, was set in a best of five series with the upper bracket team having a one map advantage as well.

SK Gaming claimed the top prize with $63,750. They defeated Gambit Esports in a 3-1 win for the title. It was an easy win for the team as they closed out the last two games in Cache and Train.

The second edition saw Team Liquid emerge as winners after beating Cloud9 in five games. The team came up with a 16-10 closing against Cloud9 and stole away the series when they needed it the most.

Cs_summit 3 was originally set for October 2018 and was rescheduled for November. This time, however, NRG Esports took the stage and defeated OpTic Gaming in a 3-1 series. They enjoyed a fair run from the early parts of the tournament, beating Ghost Gaming and Heroic in the first two series before taking down BIG in the Upper Bracket Final.

Beyond the Summit then changed their venue in the Summit Studio and just featured six teams in cs_summit 4. The tournament however, saw a double round-robin format group with all teams playing each other twice in a best of one series.

The top four teams advanced to the playoffs, which was set in a single-elimination bracket in a best of three series. Team Vitality took home the biggest winnings after defeating Team Liquid in the Grand Final with a 2-0 sweep.

Cs_summit 5 followed the same format with its former edition. Mousesports finished with the top title and won over G2 Esports in the final. OG and Virtus.pro finished with the third and fourth spots in the tournament and split the same winnings of $150,000.

The next edition was split into two parts with the pandemic taking place in 2020. BIG claimed the strong win in Europe with 16 teams joining in on the competition. They were taken out by Team Vitality in the bracket final but bounced back well in the Grand Final in five games.

The Evil Geniuses stole the show in North America. 13 teams joined the contest and it was the team which battled out and claimed 2000 RMR points with $22,000 in total winnings. MIBR was disqualified after exploiting a coach spectating bug.

Despite the two tournaments going on a separate run for two regions, there was no final game for the champions of each series. That was very tough on the fans which waited for a match between the two teams.

Recent Event

Beyond the Summit saw a successful event in cs_summit 7. There were 12 teams who joined the online tournament and fought for a bigger prize pool of $200,000. Virtus.pro took the win home with $100,000 in winnings. Fnatic came up second with $50,000 while mousesports finished third with $22,500. Heroic secured the 4th place with $17,500 in winnings.

Virtus.pro took the spotlight and with a series sweep at 2-0. Taking home the lion’s share from the prize pool is a win, but then going undefeated in their run is a much stronger feat. The team did not drop a single map en route to the final.

The win also marked the third straight title that the team has captured, with wins from FLASHPOINT 2 and DreamHack Open December in 2020. Even if they did not get free CSGO skins, there is more to expect from the team in the coming games.

The series took off with a strong game for the CIS squad. It was all close until Mareks ‘YEKINDAR’ Galinskis held strong to take Inferno away with a 16-14 score. The Virtus.pro star came up with a +11 on the kill to death differential and posted a server-high 95.1 average damage per round.

Map two would then prove to be the setting point for Virtus.pro. It allowed Fnatic to take an 8-7 lead early, but then the team choked away the lead as Virtus.pro came up with a 16-8 win on Vertigo instead. That sealed the deal for them as they were crowned as the champions for the cs_summit 7.

The success of cs_summit 7 was critical for CSGO’s coming tournaments. On that note, it was also the same for Virtus.pro. The team is on the pace to join more battles in the future with the first half of the season going well for them. This only means that the team will continue to thrive in the coming tournaments thanks to the pace they had from winning in cs_summit 7.

The promising results in the last six months have been efficient for Virtus.pro, and they have secured an extension with their partnership with Haval. This only proved to be the success that they will enjoy in the coming months.

‘We are proud of a partner like Haval and are satisfied with the outcomes of our collaboration last year’, manager Sergey Glamazda said. ‘Haval and Virtus.pro have succeeded in achieving their goals together, so we are very pleased to extend the partnership. Dota 2 and CS: GO markets are different, and Haval will have more chances to introduce its ideas’.

Thanks to their success in cs_summit 7, Virtus.pro will surely continue to push for more games in the future. That is the benefit that Beyond the Summit has given for winning teams so far, and this translates to more big games in the long run.
