HK crypto firm loses 200M dollars Crypto bills to be possibly delayed
The Hong Kong-based crypto exchange Mixin revealed on September 24, 2023 that it had been hacked, with the perpetrators running off with over $200 million. Its network's cloud service provider was hacked in the early hours of September 23, 2023.
‘Mixin Network has temporarily halted its deposit and withdrawal services. Once the proven issues have been resolved, these services will be reopened after discussion and consensus among all nodes’, the company wrote on X (Twitter).
As security breaches to big companies such as Mixin pave the news, many enthusiasts of Bitcoin casino games that play at sites like Gamdom are worried about the security of their digital assets. To lessen the concern, Mixin addresses the issues as fast as they can.
The company reached out to Google and SlowMist, a cryptocurrency security firm, to help with the investigation. Mixin reveals that its offering is an open and transparent decentralised ledger, which is collectively booked and maintained by 35 mainnet nodes.
Mixin Network is a cross-chain and user-operated exchange. The company also boasts of building open-source software that always puts the crypto security and privacy of its users first.
This information makes it more unclear how the hackers were able to steal from the company and hack into Mixin’s cloud database given that it’s supposed to be a decentralised system. To address the issue, Mixin is also in contact with Mandiant, a subsidiary of Google and an American cybersecurity firm, to help with the incident response.

Crypto bills to be possibly delayed
The passage of bills dealing with crypto regulation, market structure, and stablecoins might be delayed if the US politicians can't agree on how to fund the government by September 30, 2023. This is due to a possible shutdown of the United States government with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy under pressure from members of his own party over how to handle spending plans.
Inevitably, if the government were to shut down, no legislation would be able to move ahead. This is until the question of how to fund the United States government into the following fiscal year was resolved.
Although shutdowns are common in American history, it appears that growing worries over funding have given way to political manoeuvring in the country. ‘A shutdown is looking more likely with the fractured House divisions and Senate going in their own direction’, Ron Hammond, Blockchain Association Director of Government Relations, said.
‘The longer the shutdown lasts, the more measures related to crypto are pushed through, such as market structure and stables’, he added. Hammond also confirms that some of the legislation has sufficient support from both parties to pass in upcoming floor votes.
‘However, there were many landmines politically that could tank either bill including the various stances taken on stablecoin legislation by the two major parties’, he said. Before October 1, 2023, lawmakers must come to an agreement regarding the spending bills.
During a shutdown, the US Securities, Exchange Commission, and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission which regulate digital assets can’t carry out their duties of overseeing digital assets. This poses a concern to many cryptocurrency users in the state, including Bitcoin casino games that play at sites like Gamdom.
