What is the VCT format?

The VCT season format is a structured competitive framework designed to showcase the best teams and players in the game. It often starts with the Challengers stage, where teams compete in regional qualifiers to secure a spot in the next phase. 

The Challengers stage is divided into three parts: Challengers 1, Challengers 2, and Challengers 3 with the top teams advancing to the Masters stage. Masters tournaments bring together the best teams from different regions to compete against each other. These events are crucial as teams battle for prize money and qualification slots for the ultimate event, the Valorant Champions.

The 2024 VCT season schedule

The 2024 VCT season is starting with the Kickoff Tournament hosted in Madrid, Spain. All of the VCT regions' Kickoff tournaments will commence on the following dates:

• February 16, 2024 → VCT Americas
• February 17, 2024 → VCT Asia Pacific (APAC)
• February 20, 2024 → VCT Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA)
• February 22, 2024 → VCT China (CN)

The top two teams from each region will then qualify for the Valorant Masters Madrid, which will take place on March 14, 2024. The matches in the Valorant Masters Madrid will follow this schedule:

• March 14 to 18, 2024 → Swiss Stage
• March 21 to 24, 2024 → Playoffs

Stage 1 of the International League (IL) will begin in April until early May 2024, immediately following Masters Madrid. The top three teams from each region will be vying for a position in the next global event, VCT Masters Shanghai. 

In stage 2, the best four teams from each region will advance to VCT Champions 2024 which will commence on August 1, 2024. The top seed from each region's champions' bracket will be determined by the IL champion. 

The teams that finished second and third in Stage 2 will also qualify for the VCT Champions. Their total number of Championship points earned during the VCT season will determine their fourth team.

Although the 2024 Valorant Champions official prize pool has yet to be confirmed, the distribution of the 2023 VCT prize pool can be used to get a feel for how big the prize pool can be in the 2024 season. New format structure

Eleven teams will compete in the Kickoff Tournament under a new structure that involves seeding and grouping. There will be eleven seeded teams in the group stage, and each group will consist of three teams.

Each of the three groups will have two teams, while the other two will each have four. With a bye into the second round, those who have finished first at Champions 2023 will be put in a group of three.

The remaining ten teams will then be divided into pools and assigned to the available spots based on their VCT 2023 performance. Each group’s winning team will then advance to the playoff stage while the second place will head to the play-in round. 

In the play-in stage, the three second-place teams will compete in a round-robin format, with 1 team earning a spot in the playoff stage. Meanwhile, the payoff round will follow this format:

• The two finalists from the four competing teams will advance to Masters Madrid. 
• The teams from the play-in stage will be placed on the opposite side of the bracket of their original group.
• The winning team from the Kickoff tournament will get an advantage in the Masters Madrid seeding process and will also receive three points towards Champions qualification.

The addition of Championship points

The Championship points will be a new point system used in VCT Season 2024. The purpose of adopting this point system is to track a team's performance and consistency. The points system will work as follows:

• One team will get three points if they win the regional kickoff, the Masters in Madrid and Shanghai, the Stage 1 playoffs, and the Stage 2 playoffs.
• A team will gain one point for every match they win in Stages 1 and 2.
• The first and second seeds in each stage of the playoffs will get to skip the first round of games and earn an extra point because they will have to play one less match.

• Fnatic → Fnatic is one of the most impressive teams of the season that finished 2nd in the VCT 2024 Champions Tour Finals. The team is backed by two of their strongest players, Jake ‘Boaster’ Howlett and Timofey ‘Chronicle’ Khromov. 
• Natus Vincere (Navi) → Navi is a consistent and competitive team that has amazing players like Kyrylo ‘ANGE1’ Karasov and Dmitry ‘SUYGETSU’ Ilyushin. They secured the 9th-12th place in the Valorant Champions 2023. This season, Navi is expected to showcase their growth and dominance.
