FURIA Esports is one of the most prominent teams in the world and stands out as one of the North American elite clubs. The team is a contender among top CSGO groups and proves themselves better over the past few years as they continue to grind hard on their games.

FURIA is one of the Brazilian teams that took the spotlight as soon as they began the grind for CSGO. The team worked hard to secure their spot as one of the hyped clubs in the region. As far as their work in the CSGO scene takes them, the team is still yet to take a Major to their name in years.

The team has impressive results behind them. FURIA slowly begins to build up their confidence in the coming CSGO tournaments for 2021. They are keen to take their game to the next level and hope to secure more wins down the stretch as well.

Despite having a young roster, FURIA became one of the fastest teams to rank up in the standings and earn more fans. They are pushing their level of play and have been patient for their window in the big tournaments, moving it one game at a time.

They also own FURIATV, which is the biggest streaming channel owned by any eSports organization. They make a lot of quality content and engage with their fans well while putting some time to interact with their loyal followers.

History of FURIA Esports

FURIA’s roots go back in 2017, where the team was first brought together with a young roster. The team was founded by Jaime ‘raizen’ Padua and entered the scene right away. They had a slow start to their run as they have failed to capture any big tournament in their debut year.

2018 was a big year for FURIA as they claimed a B-Tier tournament win for the first time at GG.BET Ascensao. They took a strong win over Virtue Gaming in the finals to capture first place. Since then, FURIA has been pacing very well and played many tournaments in that year.

The team then took a huge step in their level of play in 2019 by hauling the second place in Americas Minor Championship - Katowice 2019. The team failed to overcome a deficit against Team Envy in the final round which could have been their statement game. They could have earned some top-tier designs compared to those free CSGO skins.

ESEA Season 30 was one of the team’s biggest achievements so far. FURIA placed at the top of the Premier Division in April 2019. The team had to beat Bad News Bears to mark their first tournament win for 2019.

A lot of tournaments were available for the team during that month. FURIA joined DreamHack Open in Rio de Janeiro to finish second after losing to AVANGAR in the final round. The team then scored another second-place finish in the Esports Championship Series Season 7 for North America as they fell to Team Vitality in the final.

Management and roster

FURIA has one of the best rosters in CSGO. Having Yuri ‘yuurih’ Gomes, Vinicius ‘VINI’ Figueiredo, Lucas ‘honda’ Cano, and Kaike ‘KSCERATO’ Cerato on their lineup has shown a lot of success in years. The team is led by Andrei ‘arT’ Piovezan in their games while Nicholas ‘guerri’ Norgueira serves as their coach.

All of these players have inked a five-year deal back in 2019 as contract extensions. This took out all of the renewed interest from other teams hoping to sign some of their players. The length of the new deal has raised some criticism in the CSGO community as the eSports industry continues to change and grow.

It is also familiar to the set-up that the old Virtus.pro team did with four-year deals for their players in December 2016. Shortly after those moves, the team went sideways and fell apart due to internal issues.

Padua shed light on the matter and claimed that those lengthy deals will push the team further to secure better contracts on the commercial side while helping them gain performance bonuses.

‘A longer deal allows for more commercial security for the big brands that are looking to partner with FURIA, this way diminishing the apparent risk that comes from joining a relatively new project’, Padua said. ‘Bringing more value to the professional career of our athletes, going beyond in-game aspects by also taking care of their image and building alternative ways that they can make money off their own brand through excellent commercial deals and partnerships, among other things’.

Current run

FURIA has placed themselves at the front as lead teams for the coming tournaments. After a successful push at the top of the North American CSGO scene, they switched to regional and online events in 2020 due to the pandemic as most players had to wait for many free CSGO skins to come out.

They have also added a new AWPer in the lineup with the signing of Paytyn ‘Junior’ Johnson. These moves are made with the hopes of adding more to their trophy case in 2021. Junior recently played for the North American squad Triumph.

Junior’s addition is a critical factor in FURIA’s success as they have moved former AWPer Henrique ‘HEN1’ Teles to the bench and was later linked to a new project. Rumours claim that HEN1 is set to join a six-man team composed of former MIBR members.

Landing Junior gives them a push on the long-range side of the game. Junior led his team to tier-two NA CSGO tour wins in the highest divisions of the ESEA and FPL.

This only shows that FURIA is still on poise to win some of the coming tournaments in 2021. The team can surely make a strong pace and claim some trophies at the end of the year as there are many chances for them to take this time.
