To get ready for the LPL and LEC 2024 Summer Split, you should take a quick look at what to expect this season. The roster for both sides is still incomplete because the qualifier playoffs are still ongoing and the details are still not fully disclosed. However, the important details are now up and here’s everything you need to know:

Tournament formats for the two leagues

The Summer Split for LPL (China) and LEC (Europe, Middle East, Africa or EMEA) are happening nearly simultaneously. The LPL kicks off on 1st June while the LEC begins on 8th June. Here’s a quick rundown of the formats for both League of Legends summer leagues so you’ll know what to expect in the competition:

LPL Summer 2024

The LPL features a long schedule starting in June and ending in September consisting of three stages. The winner of the event secured one of four LPL seedings for the 2024 World Championship (Worlds) while 2nd place to 8th place wins regional points. Here’s the format for the 2024 LPL Summer Split:

Group Stage

  • Double Round-Robin per group (every team plays against each other twice).
  • All matches are best of 3 with a fearless draft (each player can only play the same champion once in the series).
  • 17 invited teams are divided into groups A to D.
  • Groups A, B, and C have four members while Group D has five.
  • The bottom two teams from each group start in the low group while the rest begin in the high group.

Rumble Stage

  • Single Round-Robin per group (every team plays against each other once).
  • All matches are best of 3.
  • High group placement:
    • The top 2 teams are seeded in the semi-finals.
    • 3rd and 4th place start in the third round of the playoffs.
    • 5th and 6th place start in the second round of the playoffs.
    • 7th place begins in the first round of the playoffs.
    • 8th and 9th place are seeded into the Play-in round of the playoffs.
  • Low group placement:
    • 1st to 4th teams start in the first round of the playoffs with 8th and 9th placers of the high group.
    • The rest of the roster is eliminated.

Playoffs

  • Phase One: Play-in Stage
    • Involves the bottom 2 teams from the High Group and the top 4 teams from the Low Group.
    • Matchups determine seeding for Phase Two.
  • Phase Two: King-of-the-Hill
    • Includes teams ranked 3rd to 7th from the Group Stage and 3 teams from Phase One.
    • Divided into two brackets.
    • Winners from each bracket advance to Phase Three, facing 1st and 2nd seeds.
  • Phase Three: Double-Elimination
    • Features four teams in a Double-Elimination format.
    • Matches are Best of 5 (Bo5) using Standard Draft.
    • The goal is to compete for the championship.

The LPL has notably undergone a few revisions from their 2023 edition. It’s bound to shake up the match structure but the favourites remain the same. This will be a long Summer Split and you can bet on all matches right here at Gamdom.

LEC Summer 2024

The 2024 LEC Summer Split is much shorter than the LPL with events only running from June to July and divided into 2 stages. EMEA secures 3 seeds for Worlds 2024 and one of them is reserved for this competition’s winner. On top of that, they also secured a spot at the LEC 2024 Season Finals on 19th August together with the Summer Split 2nd and 3rd placers.

  • Regular Season
    • Single Round-Robin.
    • All matches are best of 1.
    • Counts all 10 participating teams.
    • The top 8 advance to the playoffs but the bottom two are eliminated.
  • Playoffs
    • Double elimination bracket
      • All 8 teams start at the upper bracket then losers fall to the lower bracket.
      • Lower bracket losers are eliminated from the tournament.
    • 1st and 2nd round matches are all best of 3 while other matches are best of 5.
    • The Grand Final winner is the 2024 LEC Summer Split champion.

LPL Summer 2024 favourites

Knowing which teams are the best performers in the Chinese server can help you make safer LPL predictions at Gamdom. These formidable teams have made consistent appearances at the Worlds since their respective debut in LoL esports. Here are the three teams you don’t want to bet against as they are likely to secure the top 3 places this Summer Split:

Bilibili Gaming

Bilibili Gaming is currently the top team in China, having secured second place at the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) 2024. They were also the champions of the 2024 LPL Spring Split and the Demacia Cup 2023, all of which are major leagues in League of Legends esports. It’s safe to say that Bilibili Gaming has the best League of Legends betting odds in the LPL today.

JD Gaming

JD Gaming had a strong 2023 campaign winning three S-tier tournaments in a row including the 2023 LPL Spring and Summer split and the 2023 MSI. They placed 3rd–4th at the 2023 Worlds which is still a high rank for such an important tournament. They also gave a great performance at the 2024 LPL Spring Split, making them great rivals to Bilibili Gaming.

LNG Esports

LNG Esports may have a different impressive background than the two favourites in S-tier tournaments. However, they are consistent participants placing between 2nd to 6th on average and they’ve made an appearance at the 2023 World Championship. This is still unlikely to be their year at the 2024 LPL Summer Split but they have a strong potential to be the dark horse.

LEC Summer 2024 favourites

The competition at LEC is highly intense. It’s hard to predict which teams are going to qualify for this year’s seeds because there’s always a dark horse shaking up the roster. The best way to make LEC predictions is to identify which players are drafted in every team. With this in mind, here are the top three contenders for this league’s 2024 Summer Split:

G2 Esports

G2 Esports established itself as a powerhouse from 2020 to 2022 and they’ve kept all their members since then. While they haven’t had an impressive run in 202, they redeemed their reputation somewhat at the MSI 2024 for placing 4th, the highest rank anyone from LEC has reached that season. They can bring that performance to the Summer Split and win the title for 2024.

JungleMartin ‘Yuke’ Sundelin
MidRasmus ‘Caps’ Borregaard Winther

Fnatic

Team Fnatic is one of the legends in the LEC but they haven’t made a splash in the international scene from 2022 to 2023. In the LEC, however, they are a dominant force and are consistently considered one of the favourites. They are expected to bring their A-game again this year in the 2024 Summer Split with a guaranteed place in the top 3.

MidMarek ‘Humanoid’ Brázda
BottomOh ‘Noah’ Hyeon-taek

Team BDS

Team BDS placed 3rd in the 2024 LEC Winter and Spring split respectively this 2024. They’ve also made an appearance at the 2023 Worlds although they were among the bottom hierarchy at the time. Team BDS is likely to win only 3rd place at best according to LEC fans but they have a strong chance to break the upset, making them a fun bet for outrights.
